15 things we’ve learnt so far from being in our 20s Extended (Part 2)

By January 16th, 2023Lifestyle

Hey,

This week I wanted to revisit a blog post I wrote in my early 20s (originally written in 2015). As my birthday is approaching and I am entering (more) into my mid-20s, I thought It would be a great time to reflect on  what I’ve learnt through experiences over the last few years. Looking at my previous post I can see I still hold similar sentiments, however, life has now become more purposeful.

My previous post was a collective of thoughts and opinions mainly influenced by my friends with a sprinkle of my views. This time around I wanted to share with you my heart (I’m being extra haha) and solely my findings. I believe I’ve developed a healthy growth mindset and I’m constantly evolving in the right direction.

Here are 15 things I’ve learnt so far from being in my 20’s Part 2:

  1. Perspective is everything – Chinese philosopher Confucius once said “He who says he can’t and he who says he can be both usually right”. Why do I think perspective is important ? Well, how I choose to see myself will affect my ability towards achieving any type of goal. If I believe I can do something I will do it and see it through. If I believe I can’t then I simply won’t try. I choose to keep a positive perspective and always try to see the glass as half full.
  2. The power of a vision – Proverbs 29:18 in the bible states where there is no vision the people will perish another interpretation of this some of you may be familiar with is by American scientist George Washington Carver who once said: “Where there is no vision, there is no hope”. I’ve  learned it’s deeply important that I’m aligned with something greater than myself and I must have a vision for my life that gives me a true meaning to wake up every morning. (not just being money motived)
  3. Energy – Bad energy stays far away – Skepta and Wizkid. Ultimately I’m not a fan or advocate of being around or entertaining people with bad vibes and bad energy. I’m a firm believer of what Tony Robbins, Life Coach stated which is that your Energy goes where attention flows. You can create and choose the energy you want to give and receive.
  4. Birds of a feather flock together – (At this point you can tell how much I love quotes haha) This one is pretty self-explanation. Motivational speaker Jim Rhon said, “you’re the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with”. I’m still not certain how factual this statement is, however, I do believe if I surround myself with proactive people I will also become proactive.
  5. Quality over quantity – I used to value quantity so much when it came to many circumstances. Although now being a little wiser I see so much value in quality.
  6. Getting uncomfortable – This experience is truly one of a kind. I set myself the goal of going to one networking event alone a month last year and I did it. I was nervous but I did it. I have a blog post on that experience coming soon. This experience alone proved to me that there is   a whole new world outside of my comfort zone.
  7. Find the hidden blessings in each day – Life is so full of many plot twist and unexpected circumstances (COVID- 19) practicing gratitude and stopping to realise the little blessing each day holds helps me to be more grateful and put things into perspective.
  8. Celebrate your small wins – Small or big an achievement is an achievement and whether many people know what I’ve accomplished or not I always pat myself on the back.
  9. God will always send you a partner (Or help) – There has been so many instances where I’ve needed help with a specific task and then somehow the course of life has aligned with the right people. I truly believe that God always sends help. Also in the same breath, I realised  how factual the statement If you don’t ask the answer will always be no” is.
  10. Health Is wealth – In my early 20s my health wasn’t something I ever even thought about. I would eat what I wanted at any time and go about my days. Alas, a time came when I seriously needed to fix my diet. Along with the diet, I started working out and I’ve reaped the many benefits of doing this. I’ve learnt it’s just as important to take care of my physical health as it is my mental and emotional. I always set aside time for these things.
  11. God first always and forever – Going to church is cool but knowing him personally is the best thing ever. As I draw closer to him I feel more at peace and less anxious. If you’re not spiritual  in any way, I would certainly recommend taking some quiet time for yourself to meditate. The benefits are endless!
  12. Never stop learning– I can admit after I graduated from university I did drop the ball a little when it came to education. However, once I realised this I made an active change to be more proactive with regards to my learning. It’s a mistake to think that learning stops once we finish school that’s how we can get complacent. The more I know, the more I grow. Why would anyone want to stop growing?
  13. Social media is fake – Okay so one thing I tell myself now Is that 90% (okay maybe 60%) of what I see on social media is fake. It’s so rare at this time to find genuine people who aren’t twisting their life stories for some type of profit. I’m no longer easily impressed by heavily edited photos and the rest of it. ( I hope I stay this way lol)
  14. Let whoever think whatever, just keep getting better – I am and always will remain unapologetically myself.
  15. The only competition I have is myself. The only person I aim to be better than is the women I was last year. Mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially  and all the rest of it lol. I truly believe everyone’s timeline is different and I’m content with that. What’s meant for me will always be mine. My growth rate may not be the same others my age however that’s totally okay. My only business is to focus on myself.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this post. That was 15 things I’ve leant so far from being in my 20’s Part 2.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt so far?

Can you relate to any of my points?
