Reading Time: 3 Minutes
Saturday the 18th of May marked the first anniversary for Black travel creators. Founders Debbie Adigun and Adebola Showemimo created the platform as they noticed a lack of exposure and diversity within the travel industry for black travel creators. The event took place at impact Brixton, Pop Brixton, and it was a great vibe filled with an abundance of unique travel stories, networking and jerk chicken wings. (Yes, they fed up too and the food was amazing!)
Having travelled to seventeen destinations myself, after seeing the event promoted on my twitter timeline, I thought it would be interesting to attend. I’d like to believe that I am a well-travelled person that was until I met other fairly young people, just like myself who had been to over 30 destinations!
About fifty of us who I’d like to believe are London’s finest travel creators attended the event and got the opportunity to partake in a workshop hosted by the lovely Jenna @Jennasworldview.
Several guest speakers including Ronke Lawal, Jamie – Lee Abtar, Omo Osagiede, Char, Junior, Thyra and Kojo from a range of PR, travel and lifestyle backgrounds shared their expert knowledge and opinions on working with brands, growing our social media following, starting a blog and finding our niche. We were able to ask questions, and the abundance of advice we were given was endless.
It was a great chance to meet likeminded people network, take pictures and learn more about creating engaging travel content. Shout out to the girls for creating a safe and comfortable space to talk. Amongst the many things I learnt that day, I think my biggest take away from the event was understanding that as a community, we are stronger together.
What a great time to be Black and a travel creator at that!
Till Next Week,
